Revisiting My Old Minecraft Maps pt. 5

One may have assumed that I was done with these Minecraft blog posts where I go back and look at my old Xbox Minecraft maps that I built as a kid, considering the last one was published a year and a half ago. One may also have assumed that I was done writing blog posts altogether because the last one was published over a year ago, but I'm back.

This is a medieval map called Mendington which was built in the same style as Trunkton, a map featured in one of my previous blog posts. I'll likely change the name because it doesn't mean anything, I just named it that because I thought it sounded cool. It's also a bit too similar to Trunkton's name.

I started this map after having not built for a while, so it started most just as practice for the medieval style that my cousin, TallTrippin, taught me. Like Trunkton, it was built with the assistance of my cousin. I'll point out his contributions a bit later on in this post. Unlike Trunkton, which was one of my very first maps and was built on Xbox 360 Edition, this map began construction around 2019 and was built on the Bedrock version.

As you can see, the houses are basic medieval houses which look identical to the houses featured in Trunkton, save for a few changes. Instead of wooden planks, the rooves are made of stone bricks. I did this to make the houses look like they're owned by rich people. I also added logs and planks around the windows because I guess I was trying to add unnecessary detail. The house layouts are much more varied than the ones in Trunkton, so that's an improvement.

If I remember correctly, this little river thing with the bridge and tree was my cousin's first contribution to the map. You'll notice that most of the cool things that aren't houses that all look the same were made by him, since he's the superior builder out of the two of us. I built this huge mountain spike thing around the whole map as a border to keep players contained, but this opening kind of defeats that whole purpose. Everything outside of the border is regular superflat, so taking one look over here completely breaks your immersion. That's something I plan on correcting when I finish this map and upload it to Planet Minecraft, which is something I've done with all of my other maps.

Here we have the farms of Mendington. I guess the people of Mendington REALLY like bread, because all I planted for them is wheat. I think big fields of wheat look good compared to other crops, so that's what I tend to use. I added some scarecrows despite the lack of crows in Minecraft because I think they look nice. There are a few unfinished big trees on this map because they take a while to build and I was only building custom giant trees instead of spawning in a bunch of regular vanilla trees like in Trunkton. I realized how annoying it was to build these trees, so I put a few trunks around the map in place of trees.

I built a little pile of wheat, because they'd have to put it somewhere, and a pile of melons, even though there are no melon farms on the map (plot hole?) but maybe they imported them or something. There's a fence with some horses in it, but there isn't any other livestock, so I guess all of the villagers are vegetarian equestrians.

The only farmer in Mendington lives in the house with the hay roof. Naturally, being a farmer, he'd have a lot of spare hay to use for building material. My cousin told me that in olden times peasants would construct their houses with hay roofs because it was cheap, and while it definitely isn't very cheap in Minecraft, I thought it looked cool so I did it. If you look carefully, there's a little tunnel opening on the left side of the screenshot. To see where it leads, you'll have to wait for me to finish this map and upload it so you can try it for yourself.

If you remember what I said about all the cool things were built by my cousin, this is what I mean. he did most of the terraforming and built the three unique buildings in the screenshot. He also did the base of the statue, but the Mister Chief head on the statue was all me of course. The Mister Chief head is my signature since its been my Minecraft skin for a long time and its the avatar I use to represent myself on all social media, but it's only a placeholder since it doesn't fit the medieval theme of the map even a little bit.

The houses with the stone brick roofs all supposed to be owned by wealthy people, but I see these buildings as being owned by nobility and even wealthier people. This map has class division, which I'm proud of.

This map doesn't really have an actual purpose unlike my previous maps. I think I may have used this to place Hide & Seek once or twice. I plan on converting this map into a proper Adventure map with cool lore that ties it to Trunkton. Speaking of finishing my old Minecraft maps, I uploaded a finished version of my Prison Break map, which I made a blog post about. I did a lot of work on making the Prison Break map playable, so please check that out if that sounds like something you'd be interested in.

This blog post will likely be my last in this series, as it's the last map that I think is really worth revisiting out of all of my old Xbox worlds. Thank you if you've read any of the previous blog posts or if you've downloaded and tried out any of my maps that I've uploaded to Planet Minecraft. Thanks for reading.
